Curious Leaders Discussions

You’re invited to join the conversation about bringing more curiosity to your work as a library leader! These free sessions are open to leaders at all levels – from experienced deans/directors to brand new middle managers.

These events are open, facilitated discussions, not presentations to just tune in to watch. There are no participation grades to force anyone to speak up, but I’ll show up prepared for conversation, not a monologue!

I’ve been feeling the same way I’ve heard a lot of others discuss feeling lately – wanting more human connection. So this is a space to actually have some open, kindly honest (as opposed to brutally honest) conversations where AI tools are not invited!

Community expectations

  1. Honor privacy & confidentiality
    • Take the lessons with you, but leave the personal details in the room.
    • While I can ask that of everyone, we can each only control our own actions. So please be mindful about not sharing confidential information about others.
  2. Practice embracing your curiosity
    • Listen to understand instead of listening to respond.
    • Jump to questions instead of jumping to conclusions or advice.
  3. Be mindful about sharing space equitably
    • If you tend to speak more than you listen, use this time to practice your active listening skills.
    • If you tend not to speak up as often, consider speaking more as an opportunity to help others develop their active listening skills.
  4. We do not tolerate intolerance here
    • Use of slurs or personal attacks will lead to immediate removal from the Zoom session.
    • Comments that align with structures of oppression will be challenged, with the assumption that this is a bias that you have not been prompted to examine before. This challenge will be an invitation to learn, not a personal insult. You will be expected to respond with curiosity and be open to learning. Recognizing that we all process differently, if you need time to work through your emotional response before you’re ready to embrace learning, please excuse yourself from the call and come back when you’re ready to be curious again. We will appreciate you responding in a way that both honors your needs and honors the spirit of this communal space.
